Organizing 101 is BACK this year with a brand new four-part series. Sessions take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30–8:00 starting on Oct 21 in SW Detroit (RSVP for the address). Stay after each session to meet organizers and brainstorm your own organizing campaigns. Sessions cover the following topics: Session 1: What Makes a Good Issue / Structured Organizing ConversationsLearn how to identify an issue that is widely felt and winnable. Then, learn how to talk to people affected by that issue using DSA’s organizing conversation structure to build the base of your campaign. Session 2: Identifying Leaders / Power MappingLearn how to identify the best leaders for your organizing campaign, then how to map power structures within your campaign’s focus. Mapping these structures will better equip your base to fight together and win. Sessions 3 and 4: Labor Organizing and Community OrganizingJoin these sessions to see Organizing 101 in action! Hear about the campaign to remove Flock cameras from Ferndale and the 2018 teacher red state revolt from  DSA members who participated in them. In each session, we’ll apply ideas from the first two sessions each step of the way and learn what organizers did to mobilize, change conditions, and win! Pizza and refreshments will be provided at each event. See you there!

Join the Socialist in Office Committee (SIOC) in a chapter-wide discussion on organizing alongside our Socialists in Office (SIO) in the State House. Share your thoughts and perspectives on how we establish political independence, organize alongside SIOs, and how our SIOs lead in legislative bodies.

Here Where We Live Is Our Country reanimates a band of idealists who broadened our global political imagination. As we once again contend with nationalism, repression, and the struggle for belonging, the Bund’s remarkable story and message—that liberation, dignity, and solidarity must begin where we stand—reaches across time as a guide to our own urgent moment. We especially encourage Jewish and Arab-American comrades to attend this reading group so that we can collectively learn and have a political discussion about what revolutionary socialist politics looks like for our two diasporic peoples.

From Settler Colony to Gentrifying City and Beyond: Detroit from a Democratic Socialist Perspective  The Metro Detroit DSA Political Education Committee announces a series of monthly educational events that will examine the economic, political, and social forces that have shaped Detroit from its founding to the present. The series will address topics such as the city’s slaveholder origins, its legacy of race and class struggle, its record of capitalist exploitation, and the potential for a more equitable future. Join us for an educational community discussion in Inkster on how you can fight back against this mass surveillance technology being used by a private corporation to track your every move, sell the data for profit, and invite ICE into our communities.
